Zirconium are the most preferred dental prostheses with its white color and aesthetic appearance similar to natural tooth color.

The application of ceramic materials for the fabrication of dental restorations is a focus of interest in esthetic dentistry. During the past decade, zirconia-based ceramics have been successfully introduced into the clinic to fabricate fixed dental prostheses.

Zirconia is widely used to build prosthetic devices because of its good chemical properties, dimensional stability, high mechanical strength.

The options for the restoration of edentulous areas with fixed dental prostheses have changed with the introduction of new ceramic materials. Zirconia-based ceramics have been clinically available as an alternative to the metal framework for fixed dental prostheses.

Development of both casting gold alloys and precision dental casting technologies has contributed to the application of metallic prostheses. However, because of the recent demand from patients for esthetics and biosafety, metal-free prostheses have been desired. Both new dental materials and new processing technologies are required to meet these patient demands to zirconia.

Natural looking dental restorations require appropriate materials selection, form, surface texture, translucency, and color.

Zirconia offers mechanical advantages over other full ceramic dental restorations largely owing to the potential for transformation toughening.

Thanks to their growing awareness of esthetics and biocompatibility, patients increasingly request metal-free solutions.
